Cherry Creek Bathroom

1901 Victorian Cherry Creek, Denver, CO. Summer 2014. This bathroom had undergone quite a transformation over its 113-year history! During the demolition process, we uncovered the original exterior brick wall, which led us to suspect that something unusual was going on. As we continued to dig into the space, more surprises emerged. At the homeowner’s request-standing at 6 feet 5 inches tall—he asked if we could lower the floor to avoid hitting his head on the ceiling halfway into the room. As we proceeded, we discovered that not only could we lower the floor by 8 inches, but we also found the original roof of the room below. It turned out that this bathroom had once been a sleeping porch that someone had later converted into a bathroom with a very low ceiling. Now, the floor is not only 8 inches lower but also heated. The curved shower features a custom floor-level basin and retains the original exterior brick wall. We repurposed an old changing table into a vanity and mounted a standing black glass basin into the hickory countertop, creating a sleek and functional design.
