Shoshone Living Room
Shoshone Lofts, Denver, CO – 4th Level, Concrete and Steel Building. 2022 Design and Remodel. This living room and wall space are part of a comprehensive whole-house design and remodel project that began in mid-2022. Using 3D design software enabled us to visually communicate to the client how our designs would look in their actual living space and effectively brought all collaborative trades to the same vision.
We encountered a major challenge with a problematic wall featuring an 18-inch by 18-inch vertical concrete column that obstructed our design plans. After considering numerous fireplace options that either lacked sufficient BTUs or didn’t meet building codes, and grappling with the restrictive dimensions of the flush EZ jam hidden door, we faced several setbacks. Despite being told repeatedly that it couldn’t be done, we persevered. Another issue we encountered was the ineffective placement of the main breaker panel on the right-hand side wall of the living space. Instead of trying to hide it, we embraced the industrial side of the overall design objective and faux-painted it to look extremely rusted and antique.
The final design showcases reclaimed white oak floating beams with hidden compartments and flush- mounted LED dimmable lighting, a rusted steel-clad corner fireplace providing ample heat for two lofts of this size, a custom-framed aluminum art print, and a 14-color custom hand-troweled plaster wall. The golden oak floors were also stripped down throughout the entire loft space and stained with a custom dark walnut, then finished with a ceramic fortified waterborne coating.
